This knife arrived as advertised. It was well packaged and so could easily be given as a gift. It comes in a sturdy decorative box. And, of course, it cuts bread. I also like to use this kind of knife for roasts and tomatoes. The wood handle is attractive, and I would say that for purposes of cutting bread it is overbuilt. It's quite solid and steel runs from stem to stern so its unlikely to fall apart from stress. One thing to keep in mind, a wood handle means that you won't want to put it in a dishwasher. As bread knives go, I would classify this as a long one, and that will make it good for particularly large roasts. The blade is robust and the Japanese style zebra stripes are there, but (thankfully, in my view) not too pronounced.

I have long used typical bread knives - not cheap ones - but decent quality. I decided to try this more upscale one and wow, there is a difference. First, it arrives in an impressive display that would be perfect for gift giving. The knife is very sharp and arrives with a thoughtful tip protector. The length is longer than what I have always had for a bread knife which will be perfect for my big round no-knead loaves. The wooden handle feels very luxurious to me and larger in size for comfort. As I said, I am used to more standard knives that do not have these types of handles. The blade itself has beautiful patterning. I love my current knives that I paid a decent amount for 20 years ago knowing they would last me the rest of my life, and they will, but boy oh boy, my head is turned by this knife! Thankfully I had another knife slot in the block for this beautiful bread knife! Is the price high? Not for a higher end quality knife I don't think.
